Microsurgical Procedure Manual for Mouse Carotid Artery Catheterization
based on observation of the procedure at René Remie Surgical Skills Center
Project: A procedural medical illustration series developed to document and communicate the steps of carotid artery catheterization in a laboratory mouse. The project translates a complex microsurgical workflow into a clear visual guide designed to support surgical training and procedural understanding.
Communication need:
Patients diagnosed with ALK+ lung cancer are often required to process large amounts of complex medical information related to targeted therapies, side effects, and symptom management. The project aimed to create an accessible educational resource that could support patient understanding and provide clinically relevant information for healthcare providers.
Audience:
Primary audiences included patients and caregivers seeking understandable treatment information, as well as healthcare professionals looking for educational support materials related to ALK inhibitor therapies and side effect timelines.
Visual Solution:
I independently researched, wrote, illustrated, and designed this website. The project combined medical illustration, educational infographics, accessible written content, and user-centered web design to communicate complex oncology information in a clear and approachable format. The site was built in Squarespace.
Outcome:
The final website serves as a centralized educational platform featuring treatment information, medication resources, side effect management guidance, and visual educational materials for ALK+ lung cancer. The project demonstrates the integration of scientific research, medical communication, illustration, and digital design within a patient-centered educational resource.
